Genealogy Program

Tuesday, July 24th at 6 pm

Learn how to use digitized versions of :
   · The Brockway Record
   · The Punxsutawney Spirit, and
   · The Reynoldsville Star.

Find out how the digitized newspapers make searching for your genealogy information easier.

In addition, the program will also talk about the website Heritage Quest and how members of the Jefferson County Library System have free access to Census records, PERSI, the US Serial Set, and more.

A special thank you goes to The Punxsutawney Spirit and Indiana University of Pennsylvania who helped make the digitization of The Punxsutawney Spirit possible.  This digitization project was funded by the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) through a program called the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) through the Office of Commonwealth Libraries.

It’s YOUR Money! - Monday, June 25th at 1 pm
From sweepstakes and lottery scams to investment fraud and identity theft, the con artists always manage to stay just a step ahead of us.  We even have to be careful when we go shopping, because of marketplace deceptions and a lack of consumer protection.  We can no longer trust what we hear from someone trying to get his hand on our wallet or bank account.

Consumers must be proactive in protecting our hard-earned money be being aware and informed about current scams in the marketplace.  AARP is concerned about consumer issues or people of all ages.  Learn how AARP can help with crime prevention education awareness efforts in our community.  This entertaining and educational presentation is filled with tips and practical information.

Presented by Mary Bach, consumer adovacte for AARP.  After more than twenty-five years as an activist on consumer issues, Bach is serving as Chair of AARP’s Pennsylvania Consumer Issues Task Force.  As a nationally recognized independent consumer advocate, she has numerous television and raido credits, including appearances on “The Today Show,” “Good Morning America,” “Donahue,” and “Dateline;” she has been interviewed and quoted in many publications such as “Good Housekeeping,” “Business Week,” “USA Today,” and “The Wall Street Journal.”
